Basil Munchers!

Well, I finally figured out what was eating my basil leaves. I brought the plant in the other day since I realized that 4 days of 100+ temperatures might really hurt the plant. Since we use basil pretty regularly, and I have killed a few over the years, I am determined to make this one last!

When I was putting away some pans, I saw these two "twigs" hanging off of the pot rim. I instantly knew they were twig bugs, and pulled out my camera to grab a couple pictures for Eben. You can't really tell in the pictures, but one of them was at least 2.5 inches long! I didn't think about it until I was getting ready for bed and wanted to show Trip. Turns out the buggers had moved and were now chowing down on my leaves!! I snapped another quick shot, pulled off their meals - bug included, and took them outside. Then I got a couple of pictures with them twisted up so I could prove to Ebs they're bugs!

I need those pictures for my classroom too! Second graders would get a kick out of them! Too bad we aren't in school right now, I'd come take the bugs and put them in our bug net at school.
