New Adventures for the Home

Well, as part of my perusal of the internet over the last few months I have stumbled across (more than once I might add) recipes for homemade laundry detergent. This immediately caught my attention for a number of reasons. 1) Having just bought a HE washer, I'm acutely aware of the fact that detergent for HE washing machines are normally more expensive. thankfully thus far I've found stuff on clearance! 2) Trip is very sensitive to scents. So while I've paid decent prices thus far the scent choices have been less than well received. All of this to say, that I will now be making my own laundry detergent, fabric softener and dishwasher detergent! I am excited to embark on this journey and hope to have some excellent results to share. Today after work I picked up the basic ingredients for the detergents - washing soda and borax. Additionally, I got a pack of Ivory soap to use for the laundry detergent. Most of the recipes I've seen out there recommend using either Fels Naptha or Zote bars, but without checking 14 Carrots, I couldn't find them anywhere. Tomorrow I'll be going to 14 Carrots to get citric acid and an essential oil. The citric acid is for the dishwasher detergent (takes away the haze), and the oil is for laundry scent.

I will update after I have my first go round!
